Places

Hear when they get there.

Add the places that matter. Your child's phone watches them itself and tells you when your child arrives or leaves. No trail, and no map of their day.

Find them now

Locate your child in seconds.

  • Running late for pickup? Open Location Services and tap Locate now. Your child's phone answers, usually within a few seconds.
  • You see where the phone is: "At Home" when it's inside a place you've saved, or the nearest street and town.
  • It tells you how long ago the phone was located and how accurate the fix is.

Your places

School, home, Grandma's.

  • Tap Add a place, slide the map until the circle covers the right spot, and tap Place here.
  • Make a place as small as 164 feet or as big as 31 miles.
  • Change its name or size, move it, or remove it whenever you like. A place can be anywhere, not only somewhere your child has already been.

Arrive and leave

A note when they come and go.

  • You'll get "Your child arrived at School" or "Your child left Home".
  • Arrivals are sent as soon as the phone notices. Paired Parent is careful about departures, so a phone resting near the edge of a place doesn’t send you alerts all afternoon.
  • Your child's phone checks its position every couple of minutes, so alerts usually come within a few minutes.

Both parents

Shared places, your own alerts.

  • Both parents see the same places.
  • Each of you decides whether you're notified. The parent who adds a place is notified; the other parent can switch it on.

What your child sees

Nothing hidden.

When a parent adds a place, your child's phone tells them. Their phone watches your places itself and sends only which place, arriving or leaving, and when. It never sends a trail of where it has been.

Good to know

  • Place alerts need location switched on. Paired Parent keeps it on; if it's ever off, your places show Offline.
  • Indoors or underground, a phone can't always find its position.
  • If your child's phone can't send an alert straight away, it keeps trying for up to six hours.
  • GPS can drift. Now and then that means a "left" followed by an "arrived" when your child didn't move.
  • Watching places uses some battery.
  • Your phone keeps only the most recent position and the latest place alert. Nothing more.
  • For a child under 13, Location and Places stay off until you've confirmed you're an adult, a check done through Kids Web Services, part of Epic Games.

Questions about places

Can I see where my child is?

Yes. Locate your child from your phone, and add places like school or home to hear when they arrive or leave.

Do you keep a history of where my child goes?

No. Your phone keeps only the most recent position. Places report arriving and leaving, not a trail of everywhere your child has been. More about this: Do you keep a history of where my child goes?

Do both parents get place alerts?

Both parents see the same places, and each of you chooses whether to be notified.
