Yes, always. Your child's phone tells them it is supervised, on the lock screen and in its own notice. There is no hidden mode and no way to turn the notice off, including for you.
This is a choice, not a limitation. Software that watches a child without their knowledge is the kind that gets discovered, and being discovered is worse than never having hidden it: the child learns that the phone was lying to them, and so was the parent.
Being open also makes the ordinary moments easier. When an app is waiting for your approval, their phone says so. When time on an app runs out, it tells them when it comes back. They are not left guessing why a phone they were given doesn't work the way a friend's does.
It does not mean your child controls anything. They can see that supervision is on. They cannot switch it off.

Paired Parent is for a parent or legal guardian supervising a phone they provide to their own child. Every feature described here is enforced by the software on the child's phone; where a feature has limits, the page says so.
This site keeps a visitor log: the internet address the visit came from, the page asked for, and the time. Nothing on this site tracks you across other sites. What else we keep, and why, is on the Privacy page. The photographs on this site are illustrations, not photographs of real families.
